Composting at CMS

Did you know that CMS Composts?  CMS began composting in both Sanborn and Peabody and is continuing at the new Ellen Garrison Building.  Please see resources provided by Priscilla Guiney (K-12 District Sustainability Coordinator & Green Team Advisor, Concord-Carlisle High School) to learn more about the value of composting and what/how you can compost at home!

A heartfelt thank you to Barbara Peskin for her collaboration with the Animal & Planet Club students and co-club advisor Seth Calichman in submitting a Faculty Grant request to the CMS PTG. We are proud to support this inspiring initiative, which will allow the Animal Planet Club — and the entire CMS community — to enjoy, observe, and document nature in the areas surrounding the Ellen Garrison Building at CMS.

Please click here to learn more about the project from Ms. Peskin and the Animal & Planet Club and to sign-up to get an email notification when new photos, videos or data are uploaded!

We are grateful to the CMS community for supporting our fundraising efforts, which make faculty grants like this possible. Your continued generosity empowers enriching programs that benefit all.

    • "Wildflowers provide a lot of benefits, even when there's not a flower present," says Clay Bolt, a natural history photographer and communications lead for World Wildlife Fund's (WWF) Northern Great Plains program. Their root systems, along with those of other grassland plants, extend deep into the soil, storing water and nutrients while holding on to carbon that would otherwise be released into the air. He likens grasslands to an inverted forest, where much of the growth is underground and invisible.

Plastic Free Lunch Days
  • What is Plastic-Free Lunch Day?

Plastic-Free Lunch Day will take place on Friday, April 18, 2025 in all the Concord Public Schools including CCHS. School children in New York City began the plastic-free lunch movement that is meant to reduce single-use plastic and disrupt the throw-away culture. The Concord Public Schools invite the community to explore ways to avoid plastic. By making this effort together, we can discuss ways to refuse, reduce, or reuse plastic (no need to throw out good containers)!   Our collective action protects human health and all the Earth.
